Privacy policy

shitchat is built to need as little about you as possible. This page explains, in plain language, what is stored, why it exists, and what you can remove.

Anonymous use

If you enter anonymously, we store a username, an age and a gender you chose, plus a random session identifier held in your browser. No email address, no password and no real name is collected. Clearing your browser storage ends that identity.

Permanent accounts

If you create an account, we store your email address for sign-in and account recovery only. Your email is never shown to other users and is never used to generate your public username — you choose that yourself. Sign-in with Google shares your email, name and profile picture with us for the same purpose.

Messages and rooms

Direct messages, group messages and secret-room messages are stored so they can be delivered and shown to participants. Secret rooms can be wiped by anyone in the room, and temporary groups are deleted automatically when they expire. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted — treat anything you send as readable by the people you send it to.

Notifications

If you allow browser notifications, we store the push subscription your browser issues so we can alert you about new messages. Revoking notification permission in your browser stops this immediately.

Cookies, analytics and ads

We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage, and Google AdSense on content pages such as the home page, the about page and the guides. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this and other websites. Ads are not shown on chat screens, inboxes, sign-in screens or other app surfaces. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings.

Deleting your data

Anonymous identities disappear when you clear your browser storage. For a permanent account, deleting your profile removes your account data, and deleting your friendships and quests removes those records. Wiping a secret room deletes its messages for everyone.

Age

shitchat is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
